DAY 3: Houai Say Motorcycle Tours to Golden Triangle – Muong Meung. 170 km
DAY 4: Muong Meung Motorbike Tours to Nam Ha National Park – Luang Namtha. 150 km
DAY 5: Luang Nam Tha – Rest day (massage, visit around, relaxing)
DAY 6: Luang Nam Tha Motorbike Tours to Na Mor – Boun Tai. 130 km
DAY 7: Boun Tai Motorcycle Tours to Muang Khoua – Nong Khiaw. 110 km + 4h boat trip
DAY 8: Nong Khiaw Motorcycle Tours to Pak Xeng then back Luang Prabang. 230 km
DAY 1: Luang Prabang Motorcycle Tours to Xieng Hone
Description: Head west on route No 1A on the muddy and bumpy dirt road then we take a ferry across the Mekong River to Sayabury Province where we will have lunch in the provincial capital. We will then need all our off-road riding skills to explore the Laotian jungle wilderness, along 95 km of some of the most challenging roads in northern Laos.
The ride to Hongsa has a very rugged landscape with forested mountains, and it is known for the production of rice, cotton, peanuts, sesame, maize and oranges. Teak forests cover large parts of the province and have Elephant festival during February.
Night: Really local Lao Guest-house
DAY 2: Northern Laos Motorbike Tour to Houai Say, Luang Nam Tha, Nong Khiaw: Xieng Hone Motorcycle Tours to Houai Say.
Description: Pray to God that it doesn’t rain so that we eat dust today instead of mud for the 93 km ride along the Thai border to the Mekong River. There we take a boat and enjoy our trip up to Houay Say. You may be the only people around and if you are lucky you will meet local Mahout and see elephants.
Night: Charming Guest-house
DAY 3: Houai Say Motorbike Tours to Golden Triangle – Muong Meung
Description: Get ready to head up the Mekong to the famous Golden Triangle. This region once grew thousands of acres of opium poppies. See the small and quiet villages of Akha and Yao ethnic minorities.
Night: Local Guest-house in the center of the village.
DAY 4: Northern Laos Motorbike Tour to Houai Say, Luang Nam Tha, Nong Khiaw: Muong Meung Motorcycle Tours to Nam Ha National Park – Luang Namtha.
Description: It is hard to say farewell to this part of riding along Mekong. Wake up early if you do not want to miss sunrise on the river. Enjoy this part until we head Xieng Kok. On this peaceful stretch of road, the biggest hazards you are likely to see on the road are the cows and chickens who roam freely around the area!
DAY 5: Luang Nam Tha – Rest day (massage, visit around, relaxing)
Overnight at hotel in Luang Nam Tha.
DAY 6: Northern Laos Motorbike Tour to Houai Say, Luang Nam Tha, Nong Khiaw: Luang Nam Tha Motorcycle Tours to Na Mor – Boun Tai
Description: A long and exceptional riding day through a wide variety of road surfaces, none of it smooth, and we will pass only a couple of vehicles per hour at the most. The bad road conditions are not terribly difficult, but it will force us to keep our speed down to avoid frame-bending holes. This road was built by the Chinese government in the ’60s and has barely been maintained since then. Much of the day we ride through primary forest-clad mountains and we will pass several extremely primitive hilltribe villages where women still roam around topless.
In the town of Boun Tai we will explore the remnants of an old French Legionnaire fort in a state of total disrepair.
Night: Local Hotel
DAY 7: Boun Tai Motorcycle Tours to Muang Khoua – Nong Khiaw. 110 km + 4h boat trip
Description: That is interesting to see market in the morning in Boun Tai. There are of goods coming up to local trading square in town center. Today is easy day, as we have 70 km on bumpy road…only. We will ride through many Lao Thung villages – home of mid-land ethnic groups. Take a rare good paved road from intersection to Muang Khoua where we enter our long-tail boat.On our 4 hours boat cruise downstream to Nong Khiaw we see great landscapes and river sceneries and explore the natural way of life along the river banks. Most of rivers in Laos are just…rough and sitting in boat makes same feeling with riding on winding road.
Night: Local bungalow on the Nam Ou River
DAY 8: Northern Laos Motorbike Tour to Houai Say, Luang Nam Tha, Nong Khiaw: Nong Khiaw Motorcycle Tours to Pak Xeng – Luang Prabang
Description: The last day requires a good physical condition, but in exchange for afabulous day following a long way in the middle of mountains.
A Tuk-Tuk will send you back to your hotel.
“This trip has been studied to mix up motorbiking with Lao culture, waterfalls, elephant interactions & more. Accommodations will range from simple guest-houses & good wooden bungalows to nice hotels. All tours are created and organized at their most qualitative levels but personalization is of course possible such as changing hotel standards or modifying the activity list.
In the end, your only expenses will be your food and drinks. It costs about 2$ for a noodle soup or a drink and 5$ for a proper diner.
So in case of you would like to make any changes or suppress some activities, let us know.”
